National Voluntary Guidelines (NVG)
Championed by a few private industry houses and PSUs paved the way for Company Law Amendment Bill in 2013.
In the beginnning of the second decade of this millenium, we at Erin had the opportunity to interact with Union Ministers for Corporate Affairs, the PSU Secretary and the first Director General of Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, who were responsible for making India the second country after Mauritius (1%) to prescribe a percentage (2%) of net profits to be committed to CSR initiatives.
Erin Foundation co-organised with Confederation of Indian Industry- CII - the very first workshop in the country on ISO26000, the international SR Guidelines. Dr Martin Neuriter of Austria conducted this workshop. We have also organised seminars and workshops on Best Practices in CSR and such subjects related to corporate citizenship.
The Foundation was also a pioneer in organising events on contemporary issues - Pharma, Energy, Minerals and Telecom, among others.
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is doing a great job of advocacy on CSR and initiating many CSR activities. During COVID, entire Covid Care Centres were set up by CII members apart from big support to migrant workers.
Erin Foundation is inspired by the work CII's CSR Panel.
Best Practices of CSR
The Sansera sponsored CSR workshop held at Sai Vishram Hotel in Hebbagodi on Friday March 22, 2024 was a great learning experience. This was not an interaction for planning CSR activities. It was a learning on Best Practices of a MNC- Volvo and a state leader in CSR in Anekal Taluk and the State - Sansera Engg/ Foundation. The width and depth to which CSR activity has gone to in the last few years is amazing. The Keynote was by Shri GV Rao, Volvo India's Director- CSR & External Industry Affairs and Convener of Confederation of Indian Industry - CII.
Sansera's presentation was by Shri Suresh P.R., Head- CSR and Chief Risk Officer. The depth of studies on need, interventions and impact study, put most of us in awe.
The masterly presentation on ESG- CSR and the sink with SDGs, by Shri Reginald Jacob, the CSR Head of Bill-Forge: CIE Automotives, prepared the ground for Shri Sampath Kumar's passionate talk on how corporate citizenship makes a corporate a gem in the comity of industrial houses, with particular reference to the TATAs.
The Concluding address by Shri Mrityunjaya Singh, ex MD of Volvo India & CLAAS Agri M/c and former Convener of CSR Panel of CII set the tone for further action to assist companies to direct their CSR activities for optimum impact.
